Aviation Medical Examiner Assisted Special Issuance (AASI)
AME Assisted Special Issuance (AASI) is a process that provides Dr. Stone the ability to re-issue you a medical certificate under the provisions of an Authorization for Special Issuance of a Medical Certificate for a medical condition that is disqualifying under Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR) Part 67. The Authorization letter provided to you by the FAA outlines the information that your treating physician(s) must provide for the re-issuance determination. It is your responsibility to bring the required information as outlined in their Authorization letter to your FAA Medical Certification examination for Dr. Stone's review and processing. Below is the list of some of the more common AASI conditions:

Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease
Atrial Fibrillation
Cancer - Bladder, Breast, Colon, Lymphoma, Hodgkins, Melanoma, Prostate, Renal, Testicular, Leukemia
Chronic Kidney Disease
Colitis or Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Deep Venous Thrombosis or Pulmonary Embolism
Diabetes Mellitus Type II, Controlled, Without Insulin
Glaucoma
Hepatitis C
Hypertension
Hyperthyroidism and Hypothyroidism
Migraine Headaches
Mitral and Aortic Valve Insufficiency
Paroxysmal Atrial Tachycardia
Renal Stones
Sleep Apnea
Thrombocytopenia
Coronary Heart Disease (Class 3 only)
