FOR PILOTS

What is Direct Contracting

Direct Contracting is a healthcare delivery model where the customer contracts directly with the physician.  Simply put, it is a self-payment model that reduces health insurance companies influence on healthcare delivery.

Examples of Direct Contracting models include Concierge Medicine, Direct Primary Care (DPC) and Boutique Medicine.  These models have emerged in an effort to curb rising healthcare costs and declining quality of care.  By eliminating the middleman, Direct Contracting practices can reduce their financial overhead and administrative burden thus allowing for greater accessibility and time spent during visits.

Direct Contracting practices are not for everyone.  They are ideal for those who are on High Deductible Health Plans (HDHP), have low annual medical costs and require non-covered medical services.  On average, most Americans on a HDHP spend approximately $4,000 annually between monthly premiums and out-of-pocket costs.  Roughly 80% of those don't ever reach their annual deductible, which results in an average out-of-pocket spend for medical services of $350 - $1,200 annually.  Add into the mix, limited accessibility to their physician, short and pressured appointments and you have a less than ideal scenario.  Although Direct Contracting doesn't eliminate your out-of-pocket medical costs, it does put you back in the driver seat.  It gives you the power to decide how you want to spend those dollars, where you want to spend those dollars, and and most importantly if you want to spend those dollars.

How Direct Flight Surgeon Contracting Works

You and Dr. Stone enter into a Service Level Agreement (SLA), which outlines yours and Dr. Stone's respective responsibilities in the partnership.   You contract for Flight Surgeon services performed by Dr. Stone for an annual fee.   In return, Dr. Stone provides you with the following services:

  1. FAA medical certification examinations

  2. Special Issuance authorization examinations and consultations.

  3. Electronic and TeleHealth consultations

  4. Care management and coordination services

  5. Preventive care such as heart disease and cancer screenings

  6. Basic chronic disease management services such as high blood pressure treatment

  7. Medical evaluations and treatments of acute conditions such as lower back pain

All of this makes the Direct Flight Surgeon Contracting model for the aviation community ideal.  As you peruse through my site, pay particular attention to the length of my appointments, the ease of scheduling, the multiple platforms to access myself, the competitive costs, and then decide for yourself whether  this model is right for you.
